Biden wows visitors with bike ride in the White House

In advance of their annual bike ride, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden met with wounded service members at the White House on Thursday.

Speaking to the wounded soldiers and their families on the White House South Lawn before they took part in the “Wounded Warrior Project’s Soldier Ride DC,” Vice President Joe Biden said, “You’re the best America has to offer.”

“Warriors are empowered to find solace, healing, and strength through movement,” the ride’s website proclaims.

The first lady kicked off the morning’s festivities with a cycling axiom. He said, “It never gets easier, it just gets faster,” comparing cycling to the arduous process of physical and mental recovery.

Thank you to those who have served our country and those who have cared for them.

It was during her time as a military police officer in Iraq that Danielle Green lost her left arm to an enemy rocket.

When her comrades went back to the rooftop where she had been hit to retrieve her arm and hand with her wedding ring on it, Green described how she felt cared for and supported.

That “I’ll never forget the feeling of people caring enough to risk their own lives,” Green said, was something he will never forget.

His son Beau served in Iraq, and President Biden talked about how military service affects his family. Vice President Joe Biden said, “The Biden family, to us it’s personal,” and he praised the service members in attendance for their sacrifice.

Vice President Joe Biden began the bike ride by honking a squeaking horn and saying, “On this ride today, you’re not alone.” Executive couples cheered as wounded warriors in cycling jerseys rode their bikes down the South Lawn driveway.

“We’re so damn proud of you,” Biden said before greeting the crowd and posing for photos.
