Ram will be ready to release a Rebel in 2023

A couple of prototype 2023 Ram Heavy Duty pickups were spied on by Mopar Insiders back in January. Towing mirrors had been installed on one of the test trucks, and they were said to have a slew of features. But a camouflaged hood on an olive green Ram 2500 was billed as a new model: the Ram 2500 Rebel. An anonymous source who emailed an equipment list to MI provided the best evidence yet that a heavy-duty off-road Ram will be on the market in the near future.

Of course, the Power Wagon is already a Ram product. Intriguingly, the list of optional equipment for the 2023 Ram 2500 Power Wagon includes Rebel equipment as one of the available extras. Only the 6.4-liter V8 Hemi with 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque is available in the current Power Wagon. It appears that the 2023 Power Wagon will be equipped with the 6.7-liter inline-six Cummins tubodiesel. Using the Aisin ASC69RC six-speed transmission, the 370 hp and 850 lb-ft Cummins would be paired with the 68RFE six-speed automatic; the heavier diesel, with 420 hp and 1,075 lb-ft, would be paired with the Aisin ASC69RC. There is no way to tell if the diesel is only available with the Rebel package or if the Power Wagon can get it as well, since all the options are listed together. Rebel-themed instrument cluster, active rear leveling and a Sports Performance Hood are just some of the other options available.

In order to match the current Power Wagon, only a Crew Cab with a 6’4″ box and four-wheel drive is listed; the 1500 Rebel offers a Crew Cab with a 5’7″ box and the choice of two-wheel drive. It appears that the Rebel will be missing the locking front differential and winch found on the Power Wagon. There is, however, a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds as well as the norm. The 2022 Power Wagon is rated at 8,565 pounds, which means that all Power Wagon buyers can expect big increases in payload capacity.

For heavy-duty models, the 12-inch digital gauge cluster is expected to be available as an option, as are power-telescoping and folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, auto dimming, blind-spot detection, and puddle lights.

Ram’s 2023 lineup will be unveiled later this summer, and an announcement could come at that time. We wouldn’t be surprised if the price of the 2023 Power Wagon is higher than the $64,000 model currently on the market. When it comes to the 2500 Rebel, if the Cummins engine is included, it could be a pricey option. For a complete rundown of what the early 2023 Power Wagon equipment list includes, head over to Mopar Insiders, but keep in mind that the pages aren’t listed in numerical order.
